This summer saw the launch of the Jurassic Coast Fossil Finder, a database of over 975 fossils that can be found in museums along the Jurassic Coast. As project co-ordinator, I oversaw the photography of all the specimens – and edited the text for every entry. So you might think that I’d be well and truly fossiled-out!

Well, much of it is a blur now, but some specimens will forever stick in my mind. The superb Sidmouth lobster, 110 million years old but looking identical to the ones served in our local café. The huge and hefty Swanage crocodile which unbelievably once lurked in the very bay I swim in today. The tiny turtle, the beautiful brittle stars, the lacy dragonfly wings and the thumping-great footprints. And of course, the prehistoric poo (yes, I know I should say coprolites), complete with tell-tale evidence of a last supper millions of years ago…
